Berkeley Art Center Exhibition Reception, Dec. 12, 09

The theme of this year's exhibition at Berkeley Art Center is RED so of course red was everywhere - whether it was a little of it or a lot of it. I entered one of my origami works, Squares On Squares with, obviously, four red lady bugs in the four center squares.

Lots of pretty interesting, beautiful and creative artwork, but there were plenty of mediocre ones too.

I spotted one of my UC Berkeley teachers' work. I looked for him, but he had already left (the Center's director said). She also told me that Mr. Karl Kasten is in his nineties now. Wow! and he still actively creates art. He gave me one of his prints and kept one of mine at the end of my last year at Berkeley, I wonder if he still has it or remembers me?

This is my beautiful tangerine that I picked from a big fruit bowl on the snack table there.

Anh-Vu asked Juan to pose in front of a painting.

Bao said this sculpture reminds him of something that looks familiar and funny.

This lady is one of North Branch patrons who tracked me down to BAC so she could buy a pair of book-earrings from me to give to her daughter, who also works at the library. They were happy they got what they wanted and I was pleased to know that some people do appreciate my origami works.

I will also post a video of the reception on You Tube, nganamasia, please check it out.

Hello Nga,

I meant to get back to you sooner. I arrived at the show about 5 pm and I think you had left. Sorry to have missed you. I was impressed with many of the pieces in the show and really liked your "Lady Bugs" piece. A great collection of local art. I'm going to get involved with the Art Center.

Hi Nick,

Too bad that we missed each other. My children and I left around 4:45pm that day. Please check out You Tube video of the reception that I just posted yesterday- search nganamasia and you are there. There were lots of nice pieces, but there were also bad ones too. When I saw some of the collages, I immediately thought of you: "Nick does better collages than these." Below is the link to their web site:

Good to hear from you. Happy holidays.

It was Anh-Vu's idea and he was your photographer. I just used photo shop to lighten it up a little.

Congratulations, Nga!

I've been in New York for three weeks, and just got back, so I'm just now reading about the show. I have to get over there and see it before it comes down.

Best,

Adam

Dear Member,

Happy new year!

Thank you so much for being part of this year's members showcase exhibition, RED, which is on view through January 24, 10.

The exhibition has been extremely well-received, and we've averaged about 100 visitors a week since the show opened. We deeply appreciate your commitment to Berkeley Art Center and look forward to your continued involvement.
